American record album sales statistics from RIAA Recording Industry of America as of February 2002 with the exception of Bob Dylan, which Bob Gill from RMD researched at the Library of Congress, but could not find a date.
G for gold 500,000, P for platinum 1,000,000, M for multi-platinum 2,000,000 plus. Each unit within a set counts as one unit toward certification, so that a 2 CD set would need only sell 250,000 to be certified gold. The first date is the release date. The latter dates are the dates the albums reached G-P-M status.
